Consultation process:
At Salmons Brook we work with several boroughs. We are consulted for students with an EHCP that are within our local authority of Enfield or neighbouring boroughs such as Essex, Haringey and Waltham Forest.
The consultation process is divided into different areas:
- Secondary Transfer – Our students that come from primary to secondary school
- Mid-Year Transfer – Students that are consulted within various parts of the academic year
- KS5 – Students that are consulted for at the end of year 11, for our KS5 Provision
Tour & Visit:
Once we receive a consultation, we review the paperwork provided by for the consultation. This will include the young person's EHCP and supporting documents (such as annual review minutes, speech and language assessments or educational phycologist reports). We then invite the prospective student and Parent/Carer and professionals for a tour and visit to Salmons Brook.
During this visit, we have a tour of the school, meet key members of staff from the Inclusion team and a short consultation meeting where staff explore background of education and suitability of placement.
Based on this process we then send a consultation response back to the LA saying if we can meet needs and can offer a placement, or not.
Induction:
Once SBS has been named by your local authority, this is then followed by an admission and induction meeting.
During the admission meeting we collect all the information about the young person and their family and vital information such as NHS number, doctors practice, contact details and parents complete all the paperwork required for the young person to start school. During this meeting parents/carers will be required to purchase school uniform.
Once this has been completed an induction plan is put together in which the young person will complete baseline assessments and have a staggered start and work towards full days in School. This process moves at the pace of the young person. For most young people it is 1 school week however this can be extended depending on need.
An initial inclusion profile and Behaviour Support plan is created and shared with staff to support the best way of working with the student.
Parent/Carer are also invited to a parental meeting within first half term of starting Salmons Brook to review their progress and the provision in place.
Year 7 and year 12 Transition:
During the transition process, the inclusion lead meets with the previous setting and relevant professionals for a transition meeting. This ensures that we have a clear picture of how best to support the student.
Parents/carers are required to attend an admissions meeting to complete all paperwork required for the young person to start at SBS.
Pupils are invited to a transition day in which they get a taster of the lessons and processed at SBS. Parents/carers are also invited to an information evening with key members of staff to get all the key information about the school.
An initial inclusion profile and Behaviour Support plan is created and shared with staff to support the best way of working with the student.
Parent/Carer are also invited to a parental meeting within first half term of starting Salmons Brook to review their progress and the provision in place.
