Salmons Brook is committed to the holistic development of our students and in doing this we ensure all students have access to a wide range of therapeutic interventions. This is aimed at addressing barriers to learning or to enhance health, happiness and wellbeing thereby enabling the child or young person to develop to the best of their ability.
Our team consists of Speech and Language Therapy, School Counsellor, Occupational Therapy and Psychotherapy.
These teams work with teachers, LSA’s to get a better picture of every student’s needs and any impact this is having on their learning and social interactions, developing student's skills, provide training to staff and are available on-site to answer questions / give advice. These teams meet regularly to discuss and share ideas.
Speech and Language Therapy (SALT) helps students to:
- Understand language used by those around them
- Express what they think, feel, want and need through a range of communication methods
- Develop appropriate social interaction skills
- Develop their feeding skills
Psychotherapy helps students to:
- Process difficult emotions and experiences
- Foster self-awareness, emotional regulation and improved relationships
- Better their coping skills and overall wellbeing
Occupation Therapy helps students to:
- Develop self-care and independent living skills
- Improve their organisation and self-management skills
- Develop their fine motor skills, including handwriting
- Provide assessment and support for Sensory processing
- Advice on assistive or adaptive equipment for school use.
- Advice on modifications to the school environment.
In addition to the above, we can access support from CAMHS and the Trust Educational Psychology.
