At Salmons Brook School, we understand that supporting the social, emotional, and mental health (SEMH) of our students is essential to unlocking their full potential. As part of our targeted intervention offer, we deliver a bespoke in-house SEMH programme, designed and overseen by our Interventions Lead and delivered by our team of specialist HLTAs.
This unique programme combines the most effective elements of our therapeutic practice, drawing on expertise in:
-
Zones of Regulation
-
Emotion Coaching
-
ELSA strategies
-
Trauma-informed approaches
Delivered over six weeks in small group sessions, the programme provides a structured yet nurturing space for students to explore and develop:
-
Emotional awareness and vocabulary
-
Strategies for self-regulation and coping with stress or anger
-
Social communication and peer interaction skills
-
Self-esteem, resilience, and a sense of belonging
-
Problem-solving and conflict resolution
Students are selected based on pastoral referrals, EHCP targets, and assessments of emotional need. Each cycle is personalised to the students in the group and includes pre- and post-programme evaluations to measure impact and progress.
The programme plays a key role in preparing students for successful engagement in the classroom, reducing incidents of dysregulation, and helping students build the emotional toolkit they need to form positive relationships and thrive in school and beyond.
