At Salmons Brook School, we are committed to providing personalised academic support to help every student achieve their full potential. As part of our intervention offer, we deliver structured Academic Support sessions that focus on strengthening key skills in English and Maths, as well as supporting students with exam preparation and booster sessions.
These sessions are delivered by our specialist HLTA team and teaching staff, and are carefully targeted using assessment data, EHCP outcomes, and teacher referrals. Academic Support is available across Key Stages 3, 4 and 5, and is tailored to meet a wide range of needs—from closing learning gaps to building exam confidence.
Our Academic Support programme includes:
-
Literacy and numeracy catch-up for students below age-related expectations
-
1:1 and small group tuition focused on key concepts in English and Maths
-
Booster sessions in preparation for Functional Skills, GCSEs, and vocational qualifications
-
Revision skills and exam technique coaching
-
Targeted support for students with disrupted learning or high levels of need
Sessions are timetabled during the school day and are tracked for impact, with regular reviews to ensure students are making progress and gaining confidence in their learning. The support is flexible and responsive, ensuring that students receive the right help at the right time.
This strand of intervention plays a vital role in removing academic barriers, reducing anxiety around learning, and ensuring all students are well-prepared for their next steps in education or training.
